Class Description


Musical Movement

For ages 2 ½ -4 year olds. Lots of props such as hula hoops, feather dusters, bean bags, dress-up skirts, tiaras, fairy wands, rhythm instruments, etc. Focus on large motor skills (skipping, hopping on one foot, etc). Basics of ballet: 3 positions of the arms and 3 positions of the feet, tendus etc. Focus on pattern repeats and teaching sequencing.

Kinder Tap Ballet Combo

Ages 4-5. Next step after a Musical Movement class. ½ hour Tap and ½ hour Ballet. Fun movement but not as much large motor skill prop use as Musical Movement. Lots of musical games. Focus on rhythm and basic tap and ballet.

Kinder-2nd Grade Tap Ballet Combo

Less focus on props and games and more focus on ballet and tap technique. Still creative movement based class; however, with less emphasis on large motor skills and more focus on smaller, rhythmic based technique.

Tap Jazz Combo

1st graders through 5th or 6th graders.. ½ hour tap ½ hour jazz. This is a pure technique class and is an intro to jazz. Usually coincides with a straight 1 hour of ballet.

Tap or Jazz

Straight hour (or more) Elementary through High School students. Strictly technique.

Ballet

One day a week, one hour classes available that coincide with the Tap/Jazz Combos for children ages 1st-5th or 6th grade. Can be taken without the Tap/Jazz Combo as well. There are 1 hour to 1 1/2 hour ballet classes that meet twice a week for the older Sr. Elementary, Jr. High and High school students.

Pre Pointe/Pointe

Pre Pointe and Pointe classes offered to serious students who take at least 2 1/2-3 hours a week of ballet and have been taking this much ballet for several years and are at least 12 years of age.

Contemporary/Modern

Modern movement based classes for the more serious dance students who have taken ballet, jazz, and lyrical classes as a pre-requisite.

Lyrical

Expressive movement based class for students ages Middle Elementary through High School. Strongly suggest ballet background or take ballet with lyrical to progress properly in this dance form.

Yoga

Intermediate to Advanced Levels open to ages Jr. High through Adult. Focus on core strength, flexibility, balance, and breathing.

Pilates

Intermediate to Advanced Levels open to ages Jr. High through Adult. Taught with Pilates Resist-a-Bands. Focus on strength training, core strength especially, and flexibility.

Turns & Progressions

Focus on turns, leaps, progressions across the floor and flexibility. Offered for ages Elementary through High School. No choreography for dance concerts taught in these classes. Strictly technique.

Cheer

Cheer based class with some stunting. Good if children do not want to go the Tap/Ballet or Tap/Jazz Combo route and have desire to possibly cheer in Jr High/High School.

Hip Hop

Fun class if you want something recreational. Also great if you want to add it to a Tap/Ballet Combo or Tap/Jazz Combo program. Classes range in level and age from Kindergarten through High School. Great class for rhythmic training and preparations for Song Leaders and/or Dance Teams in school.

Musical Theatre

Vocal training and basic theatre dance staging. Great for kids who love to act, sing, and dance. Must be able to read a script!

Ballroom

Teen class with a variety of styles such as Swing, Cha Cha, Waltz, and the Tango. Will perform in Concert. There will be two 8 week Adult Ballroom Sessions throughout the year.
